Dynamics 365 Business Central 25 Wave 2 is Available
Microsoft’s latest update to Business Central (version 25 – 2025 Release Wave 2) continues to evolve the ERP into a smarter, more connected, and more intuitive platform. This release focuses on practical AI, automation, and deeper integration across the Microsoft stack, helping organizations simplify operations, reduce manual tasks, and gain insights faster.
Smarter Automation with the Sales Order Agent
One of the most useful additions in this release is the new Sales Order Agent. It can read customer emails and attachments, identify the client, create a quote, check stock availability, and even convert the quote into a sales order automatically. Setup is relatively simple, but the real value comes from tailoring it to your workflow. Decide which mailbox the agent monitors, how much automation you want before human review, and which customers or items should trigger automatic processing. For most companies, a sandbox pilot is the best place to start; test it with a few recurring email patterns, review the generated quotes, and fine-tune your rules before scaling up. Once configured, the agent can save hours of manual work each week while improving accuracy and response time.
Copilot Enhancements and AI Support
Microsoft has expanded Copilot’s role in Business Central. You can now ask natural-language questions about your data (“What were our top items by margin last quarter?”) and get intelligent responses or summaries. Copilot also assists with record creation and can provide suggestions during tasks like generating sales lines. Developers can extend these capabilities using AL code, allowing businesses to shape Copilot’s behavior to match their internal processes.
Finance and Compliance Upgrades
Finance teams will notice several welcome improvements. The new Audit Trail Report consolidates detailed G/L history for stronger transparency. Multi-entity billing allows greater flexibility—invoice multiple projects to one customer or spread a single project across several clients. Bulk fixed-asset creation has been simplified, streamlining asset management and speeding up month-end close. Together, these changes improve both governance and day-to-day efficiency.
Integration and Connectivity Improvements
Business Central’s integration footprint continues to grow. The Shopify connector has been enhanced for smoother B2B transactions, including better pricing synchronization and staff-to-salesperson mapping. Power Automate workflows now include refined approval logic and expanded table/field mappings, enabling cleaner connections between Business Central and the Power Platform. These upgrades make it easier to automate end-to-end processes across sales, operations, and finance.
Sustainability and Global Readiness
Sustainability is becoming part of the ERP core. Business Central 25 introduces built-in ESG functionality, letting businesses track emissions, allocate carbon outputs to production or logistics, and prepare sustainability reports—all directly within the system. With more organizations facing new reporting requirements, this built-in visibility helps centralize data and reduce dependency on spreadsheets or third-party tools.
Developer Experience and Customization
For partners and developers, version 25 brings smoother AL-based customization and deeper Copilot extension points. This flexibility makes it easier to automate specialized processes or design industry-specific add-ons while staying fully cloud-compliant.
Getting Started and Practical Advice
If you’re considering enabling the Sales Order Agent or Copilot features, start small. Define the workflow you want to automate, connect a dedicated mailbox, and test with a few real customer examples. Adjust your review thresholds and refine the agent’s decision rules as you go. In most cases, these new tools deliver immediate productivity gains once tuned to your business logic.
