Better planning equals better delineation
Good day,
A floor make-over is a nice way to improve the look and value of your home. Step one, you replace your parquet with hardwood flooring. Step two, change the ceramic tiles of the kitchen to give it a more modern look.
Once the materials have been purchased and delivered, we are ready to begin work. But wait, other than the surface preparation, what else should we consider before moving forward?
Exactly. It is primordial that we evaluate the height of each surface so they are levelled, otherwise we’ll have an embarrassing toe-breaker between the two floors. How do we prevent this gap? We meticulously measure the thickness of each surface and apply the appropriate plywood, when necessary, before installing the new flooring.
In integrated systems deployments, the complexity and the issues are multiplied. A sound approach is to identify the functional gaps, meaning those business requirements that cannot be addressed without customizations, before moving forward. Before committing with your friendly partner, granting them a short-term mandate to deliver a Fit Gap Analysis is well advised.
You will then receive a document identifying system features that do not perfectly meet your needs and the solutions to remedy the situation. This will provide you with a good opportunity to better evaluate your partner and the scope of your project while minimizing your risk by eliminating surprises.
This also reduces the risk for your software vendor and this approach is therefore beneficial for all parties.
I am listening. Write me if you want to share comments and questions.
Cordially,
Sylvain.
